About Timber Chan
Handbag Development & Supply Chain Specialist
Since 2015, Timber Chan has worked in the handbag industry, helping turn early product ideas into commercially practical, production-ready bags.
He is the co-founder of Lettning Ang and works across handbag development, technical review, production coordination and quality workflows. His role is to help brand teams make informed decisions before a design becomes difficult or costly to change.
From product development to brand partnership
Timber studied English and Economic Management at Wuhan University before entering the handbag industry. He began his career at an established women’s handbag factory as a product developer. That early role placed him close to the questions that determine whether a design can move from a drawing to a workable sample: proportion, construction, materials, hardware, sewing sequence and finishing.
He later moved into export sales and then business management. This progression gave him a view of both sides of a handbag project: what a brand intends to create and what a factory must resolve to make it consistently. He subsequently partnered with a factory owner to establish Lettning Ang.
Today, he brings those perspectives together when reviewing a project brief. The aim is not to make a design generic or to overrule a brand’s point of view. It is to identify the decisions that need to be made early, so the sample, approval process and production plan are easier to control.
What he works on
Timber’s main focus is women’s handbags, particularly PU handbag development. His experience also includes men’s bags, children’s bags and sewn products that require careful material selection, pattern engineering, stitching and assembly control.
- Reviewing a sketch, reference bag or early brief for product feasibility.
- Translating design intent into practical construction choices.
- Assessing proportions, structure, reinforcement, pockets, handles, straps, closures and hardware placement.
- Comparing PU surface, colour, texture, lining, trim and finishing options against the intended market position.
- Looking at sewing routes, edge treatment, assembly sequence and risks that may appear during sampling or bulk production.
- Helping teams define what must be approved in a sample before production begins.
A recommendation is always project-specific. Material performance, cost, compliance requirements, MOQ, sampling time and delivery timing should be confirmed against the actual design, sourcing route and order plan.
A practical approach to design development
For Timber, a handbag is more than its appearance. A design needs to work as a product: it should carry correctly, open and close reliably, keep its intended silhouette, use materials appropriately and remain reproducible after sampling.
- What is the bag expected to do? The intended user, capacity, carry mode and price position affect nearly every construction decision.
- What must remain visually distinctive? A silhouette, handle, texture, hardware or colour story may be central to the design and needs early protection.
- What happens beneath the surface? Reinforcement, lining, seam allowance, edge treatment and hardware backing often decide long-term appearance and use.
- What needs proof in the sample? Measurements, material hand-feel, strap comfort, opening function, hardware placement and finishing should be reviewed against a written approval standard.
- What can change once production begins? Clear approval points reduce the risk of late revisions being treated as assumptions.
This way of working reflects a personal commitment: every brief is a customer’s product idea and deserves careful thought before it is made. Timber approaches each sketch, reference and question with the same care he would give to a product being prepared for its first market launch.
Selected brand experience
Lettning Ang’s published brand-experience materials and Timber’s project history include work connected with fashion and accessories brands such as Dune, Braccialini, WVS, Melie Bianco, Cafuné, Pixie Mood, Angela Roi and O bag.
Project scope, timing, product category and deliverables vary by engagement. This list should not be read as an endorsement by, or a current commercial relationship with, every named brand.
Work with Timber and the Lettning Ang team
If you have a concept, sketch, reference sample or an existing style that needs to be developed further, begin by sharing the product goal and the details you already know. A focused discussion can clarify the questions to resolve before sampling.
Editorial and evidence boundary
